
Internal Medicine Residency
Carla Harwell, M.D.
Dr. Harwell is a member of the Division of General Internal Medicine at Case. She is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and on the full time faculty at University Hospitals Case Medical Center. Dr. Harwell has served as a clinic preceptor and resident mentor for many years, and assumed the role of an Associate Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program in July 2006.
Her clinical focus is outpatient general medicine and primary care with an additional focus in health care disparities and women's health. Dr. Harwell is nationally recognized as a leader in education on health care disparities and medical issues affecting minorities. She serves as a clinic preceptor and co-director of the Douglas Moore Residents Clinic at University Hospital Case Medical Center and Director of the David Satcher Clerkship. Dr. Harwell serves on a number of local, regional and national boards and has received numerous awards and honors.
Dr. Harwell attended medical school at the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine and subsequently completed internship and residency at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine (University Hospital Case Medical Center and the Cleveland VA). After completing her residency, she took a faculty position at Case and assumed the role as Medical Director for the Otis Moss Jr, University Hospitals Medical Center. Dr. Harwell resides in the city of Richmond Heights, where she lives with her husband and daughter.
